Working Farms Pilot Program

The Working Farms Program seeks to make land ownership more accessible to farmers and preserving threatened farmland from development constraints. Currently being piloted in metro Atlanta and metro Chicago, the fund has the following model: they acquire farmland under threat of conversion, go into a lease-to-own contract, sell the conservation easement for the permanent protection of land, and then sell the farm to the farmer at agricultural use value. This entire process takes 3-5 years, and the fund focuses on acquiring small to mid-sized farms of 20 to 500 acres.
