Coming Soon: Regional Food System Network for Metro Atlanta
The Local Food System Planning program has generated exceptional regional interest, with more than 25% of all metro Atlanta cities applying to participate. We received a record-breaking nine submissions in our 2025 application period. This growing momentum presents an opportunity to more effectively connect city initiatives across a regional network. A Metro Atlanta Regional Food System Network would build on lessons learned and the partnerships formed over the past six years.
This network will provide coordinated implementation support for planned partner cities, scale opportunities for regional strategy development and food system support, and build stronger relationships with municipal and community partners.
Growing a regional network will provide local food policy efforts with stronger data, shared tools, and intentional networking space to continue building a more resilient local food system in metro Atlanta. Convening local food leaders will also create coordinated pathways for regional partners so they can leverage joint financial and organizational resources to address gaps in program funding and support.
National Outreach & Research
To develop a path toward establishing a Regional Food System Network in metro Atlanta, Food Well Alliance conducted intentional outreach to food policy councils nationwide. Our goal was to gather diverse perspectives and build sustainable connections outside of the metro Atlanta region. Outreach began in February 2026, with interviews conducted from March through April 2026. Twelve food policy councils were interviewed and key takeaways and best practices were developed into a comprehensive report.
Our Approach
Convene & Connect
Bring together cross-sector leadership and stakeholders to build intentional relationships and strengthen collaboration across the region. This network will work to develop a community engaged framework for operations.

Build Capacity for Action
Equip partners with tools for success including hands-on training and resources in advocacy, programming, and project implementation to turn ideas into lasting impact.
Our Vision
A connected and collaborative network of local government, community leaders, regional partners, and local growers coming together to support a resilient, equitable food system and lay the groundwork for sustainable policy change and long-term transformation.
