Amend Zoning Regulations to Specify and Expand Zones Where Various Types of Agriculture Are Allowed

California’s Urban Agriculture Incentive Zones Act

In 2014, California implemented Assembly Bill 551, which allows landowners in metropolitan areas to receive tax incentives for putting land in agriculture use. The Urban Agriculture Incentive Zones Act authorizes a California city, county, and a landowner to enter into a contract to enforceably restrict the use of vacant, unimproved, or otherwise blighted lands for small-scale production of agricultural crops and animal husbandry. The land must be at least .1 acres but no larger than 3 acres.
