Cox Foundation gives $3.8 million to Food Well Alliance

James M. Cox Foundation gave Atlanta-based Food Well Alliance a nearly $3.8 million grant to help the organization continue to grow.

A previous $1 million grant from Atlanta-based Cox Foundation helped start Food Well Alliance, which partners with Atlanta Community Food Bank to connect members of Atlanta’s local food movement to build healthier communities.

So far, Food Well Alliance has provided $950,000 to support more than 200 organizations and more than 150 urban gardens through local food grants, collaborative design initiatives and community capital grants. The organization said it plans to continue to make similar investments.

“Food is a powerful force that brings people together,” said Alex Taylor, Cox Enterprises executive vice president. “Access to healthy, home-grown food is good for the people of Atlanta – particularly for children. Growing food and creating gardens across metro Atlanta is a great way to foster a stronger community.”
