About Us

Food Well Alliance is a community of supportive partners, or what we fondly refer to as opportunity-makers, who convene and collaborate to build healthier communities by using local food as a transformational tool.

We are raising consciousness to strengthen our local food system (and the food it produces) for our communities to enjoy the benefits of nutrition and health, community vitality, economic development and environmental stewardship.

Food Well Alliance has the privilege and responsibility to link education and investments across the local food system by connecting stakeholders with common goals.

By working with opportunity-makers over the past several months, we have engaged with the community to listen and seek alignment around opportunities related to the local food system. The fact is, everyone that eats is already a part of the local food movement, but the goal is to encourage greater participation by sharing relevant resources, developing common understanding, identifying best practices and promoting those practices.

Food Well Alliance Grant Opportunities

There are more than 300 community and education gardens across Metro Atlanta.  Collectively, they are transforming their neighborhoods and building healthier communities. These gardens provide access to locally grown food, enhance food security, and provide a place to connect with each other and the natural environment.

In an effort to support community and educational gardens across Atlanta, Food Well Alliance brought together  garden leaders to identify opportunities to improve their sustainability.  A survey we conducted  found that gardens contribute to a greater sense of community pride, according to the majority of participants. Three quarters of those surveyed said the garden enhances their food security, but also revealed that many community and educational gardens lack resources to improve basic infrastructure, such as tool sheds, water catchment systems, repair of raised beds, and soil.

In response to these needs, Food Well Alliance released its first grant opportunity on January 15, 2015 specifically for community and educational gardens, to support infrastructure projects up to $2,500.  The response from the gardens was inspiring.

Food Well Alliance is pleased to award a total of $25,000 to 12 community and  education gardens that are making great impacts to build healthier communities across metro Atlanta.
