You spent this past summer in peak temperatures, tending to tomato plants and monitoring the watercolor-hues of peppers. You are currently plucking okra, eggplants and muscadines from vines and stalks, and toting them to parks, church parking lots and Marta stations to sell. Not to mention, fall planting is right around the corner.
You provide the very thing that drives conversations about health, equity, access and community in Atlanta. You are farmers, and without your commitment to cultivating the land, what we understand as the local food system in metro Atlanta would not exist.
Food Well Alliance invites you to our second official Learning Table “We are Farmers: A meal and discussion for farmers and friends” on October 13 from 5:30pm -8pm at Atlanta Community Food Bank.
As a part of our collaborative process, our Learning Tables are community-based conversations and inform the way we implement initiatives and mobilize capital.
In collaboration with UGA Cooperative Extension, City of Atlanta: Office of Sustainability, Georgia Organics and Georgia Farmers Market Association, we are coming together to learn about your needs in getting your product to market and to connect you with people who can assist you to scale your work. We’d like to better understand where are the local farmers in metro Atlanta and what resources are required for sustainable growing practices.
So join us for a meal, share your needs in navigating Atlanta’s local food system, connect with UGA Extension services and subscribe to the MarketMaker website, for access to more local markets.
